The top 10 wrestlers to never main event WrestleMania

WrestleMania main event is the biggest match a WWE Superstar can compete in, and that’s an honor only a select number of performers can put on their CV.

Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Roman Reigns, and John Cena have been the boss many times as a result of their status as the top guys in the company.

However, while some of the best performers have never even main evented a WrestleMania in their careers, most of them have accomplished nearly everything in the industry.

The likes of Bruno Sammartino, Buddy Rodgers and Pedro Morales wrestled before the start of ‘Mania, while Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes did not compete in WWE during their prime (only 1 ‘Mania outing). Nothing is considered here.

Keeping this in mind, GiveMeSport Take you through the 10 best WWE Superstars to ever main event WrestleMania…

But first, some honorable mentions: Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, Bobby Lashley (all still at some point), Mr. Perfect, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Jake Roberts.

10. Cain

While never a high profile consistent main eventer, The Big Red Machine has won several world titles and competed in the third most WrestleMania matches at 20. Do you think that is a main event? His two brothers’ battles with the Undertaker were so good.

9. Booker T

Booker T says he is open to returning to the ring

The five-time WCW Champion (and one-time World Heavyweight Champion) was one of the best all-around performers of his generation. He made his main event appearance at WrestleMania 19 in a World Title mid-card match with Triple H.

8. Ricky Steamboat

Dragon is the best example of a pure babyface in WWE history but was always behind Hulk Hogan in the 1980s. Hogan vs. Andre overshadowed his Intercontinental Title match against Randy Savage at WrestleMania 3.

7. Owen Hart

One of the most revered and respected wrestlers of all time before and after his tragic death in 1999. Owen actually defeated his brother Bret at WrestleMania 10, only for The Hitman to win the WWE Title in the main event.

6. Goldberg

Big Bill was the biggest star in WCW for a time, main eventing Starrcade in 1998 and 1999. His first WWE stint only lasted one WrestleMania, but he was a pure part-timer.

5. Rey Mysterio

The Master of 619 is the greatest luchador in WWE history, and one of the most popular Superstars of all time. His WrestleMania 22 World Title win over Kurt Angle and Randy Orton brought him closer to the main event.

4. Eddie Guerrero

It was rumored that Eddie was poised to win the world title before he passed in November 2005. Who knew it could lead to the main event? He retained his WWE Title against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 20 but not in the last match of the night.

3. Sting

Icon was the last holdover of his generation that didn’t work for Vince McMahon. He wrestled Triple H at WrestleMania 31 in an exhibition match but never headlined WWE’s biggest show like he did in NWA, WCW and TNA.

2. CM Punk

CM Punk

Is Punk a bigger star than Sting? Arguably, he was the WWE Champion for 15 years from 2011 to 2013. Despite this, The Rock and John Cena were defeated at both WrestleMania 28 and 29. This led to his exit from the company. Can they still make a shock return to the main event?

1. Ric Flair

Arguably the greatest professional wrestler of all time and certainly not to main event WrestleMania. His WWE Title match with Randy Savage at 8 and his “retirement” match with Shawn Michaels at 24 could both be the last matches of the night. This is the single most complete wrestling career gap.
