Terry Bradshaw on His Wait to Publicly Discuss His Cancer Diagnosis – The Hollywood Reporter

Terry Bradshaw waited to publicly announce his cancer diagnosis because he wanted to avoid pity, but decided to speak out when he said people labeled him an “embarrassment” after he appeared to have trouble breathing in an episode. Fox NFL Sunday.

Bradshaw shared his diagnosis during the Oct. 2 broadcast On Sunday’s Football Show, after the analyst and co-host noticeably stumbled over his words while speaking, it led social media users to comment on whether Bradshaw should retire.

“I couldn’t breathe. Then everyone would notice,” Bradshaw reflected A Today Interview With NBC News correspondent Harry Smith. “Social media went, ‘Get rid of him. He needs to be off the air. He’s an embarrassment.’ And I said, ‘Embarrassment? I have cancer.

Bradshaw shared that it took him a while to not publicly discuss his diagnoses, including bladder and skin cancer in the same year. “It took me a long time before I told my family,” she said.

“I didn’t talk about it because I didn’t want pity. I didn’t talk about it because a lot of celebrities – unfortunately, I’m one of those – when they say this, the perception with millions of people around America is, ‘Oh, look at him. Bless his heart. He has cancer. Well, my husband died of cancer!”’ Bradshaw explained. “I didn’t want that.”

During October 2nd Fox NFL Sunday On air, Bradshaw confirmed that he is now cancer free but in November 2021, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer and was treated at Yale University Medical Center. But in March, he was diagnosed again, this time after doctors discovered a tumor associated with a rare skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma.

“Folks, I may not look like my old self, but I feel like my old self,” he said at the time. “I am cancer free. I feel better and over time I’m back to where I normally am. So I appreciate your prayers and concern.
