Rings of Power Online for Free – The Hollywood Reporter

This story was created in paid partnership with Amazon Prime Video.

There are only four episodes left of Amazon Studios’ highly anticipated (and highly expensive) The Rings of Power Lord of the Rings The sequel earned early accolades from critics.

Adapted from JRR Tolkien’s book series, The Rings of Power Set in the Second Age – thousands of years before the events The Hobbit And Lord of the Rings – and brings new and familiar characters to the small screen. Created by Patrick McKay and John Payne, the first season of the Amazon Studios original series spans eight episodes and stars Benjamin Walker as elven High King Gil-Galad, Morfid Clarke as young Galadriel (played by Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s films), Robert Aramaio as young Elrond (played by Hugo in the films portrayed by Weaving), Charles Edwards as Elven Prince Celebrimbor, Owain Arthur as Dwarven Prince Durin IV and Maxime Baldry as Isildur.

Lenny Henry as Zadoc Burrows, Nazanin Boniadi as Bronwyn, Ismael Cruz Cordova as Arondir, Daniel Wayman as the Stranger, Sophie Nomvet as the Dwarven princess Disa and Charlie Vickers as Halbrand, join the cast in new roles.

As Amazon only bought the screen rights The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and appendices of novels, The Rings of Power Explores the events of the Second and Third Ages, including the Rings of Power and the last alliances of Elves and Men. (Jackson’s trilogy took place in the third era.)

In a recent chat business Said podcast The Hollywood ReporterKim Masters, Jackson explained, “about four, five years ago, he asked me if I was interested in it … so I said, ‘Have you got the scripts yet?’ Because I knew how hard it was to write scripts for films and I didn’t know the people who wrote their screenplays. They said, ‘Oh no, we haven’t got the scripts yet, but as soon as we do, we’ll send you the scripts.’ So I waited for the scripts to come and they never did. .

The award-winning filmmaker said he would still watch the Amazon prequel series. “I’m not someone who seeks ill will. Filmmaking is hard enough. If someone makes a good film or TV show, it’s something to celebrate. One thing I’m looking forward to is watching it as a completely neutral viewer,” he says.

In a statement, Amazon Studios responded: “In pursuing our show rights, we are committed to keeping the series distinct and separate from the films. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and The Lord of the Rings Movies and are excited that they look forward to watching The Rings of Power.”

According to the show’s logline, the series takes viewers to an era where great powers were built, empires rose to glory and fell, unlikely heroes were tested, hope from the best threads and a great villain ripped from Tolkien’s pen and threatened to engulf the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they deal with the re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the dark depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lyndon, to the breathless island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters carve out a legacy that will live long. They’re gone.”

Amazon spent $465 million on the first season of the series, which was filmed in New Zealand. The e-commerce giant-turned-film studio plans to film five potential seasons and possible spinoff series in the country.
