CM Punk’s comments about former WWE Champion The Rock from 2011 really haven’t aged well.
Around the time he became WWE Champion in 2011, CM Punk had some interesting things to say about The Rock returning to the company.
However, based on what happened with Punk this summer, the comments are repetitive and don’t exactly paint the best picture of the 43-year-old.
CM Punk’s comments are quite spuriously outdated
In 2011, CM Punk commented on how he was not happy with how The Rock claimed the success of WrestleMania XXVII because he hosted the event.
Speaking at the red carpet event, the former WWE superstar said he hoped people would call him out for similar things when he became a veteran.
When he comes back and tries to say that WrestleMania was a success because of him, it grates on my nerves. In ten years, when I’m old and touchy-feely, I think some young punk kids will point at me like ‘you’re old and out of touch’.

It looks like Punk’s future has come true with people in the wrestling industry now criticizing him for his comments and behavior following his return to wrestling with AEW in August 2021.
Tony Khan has said that Punk’s return is part of why AEW is doing so well at the moment, and the veteran didn’t exactly shy away from saying he agrees with his boss’ assessment of the material.
In fact, as fans have pointed out, the ex-WWE star’s lines about how he’s contributed to AEW’s success so far are remarkably similar to what he called The Rock Out 11 years ago.
Below is a selection of tweets from fans in response to the re-emergence of the clip, with many calling out the punk he labeled The Rock in 2011 as out of touch.
Was CM Punk suspended by the AEW?
According to Wrestling SpectatorCM Punk is out right now, having been suspended by AEW following his actions following All Out on September 4th.
Moments after winning the AEW World Championship, CM Punk verbally attacked Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, MJF and the Young Bucks during the post-show medical scrum.
Punk’s comments led to Punk confronting Elite after concluding his press conference, leading to a physical altercation.
Since then, all four men have been suspended from AEW and have not appeared on TV pending an internal investigation.
This came just weeks after the reports Choosing to fight revealed the behind-the-scenes issues Punk was dealing with within AEW, including fears that he would leave if reports are to be believed.
